We love giving home buyers one year of FREE Golf when they purchase through our sales office, but you may be wondering, “What if I don’t know how to golf?” or “It’s been a while; I’m a bit rusty.” Well, we have good news! Four Lakes holds a free golf clinic every Tuesday to teach golfers of all skill levels, whether interested in learning the game or simply honing their skills. All residents are invited to participate as our Instructor tackles a new topic each week dealing with issues commonly encountered during a round of play.
Longtime resident and certified PGA Tour Teaching professional Bob Borelli has lived in the community for over 20 years. Borelli was intrigued when Bob Griffin first approached him in the Pro Shop in August of 2005; Griffin asked, “Would you be willing to host a free golf clinic for those who are interested?” Borelli was no stranger to teaching, being a school teacher by profession, so he agreed.
They spread the word by posting flyers at the Pro Shop, and the very first week, 31 residents showed up! It was a hit! Twenty-seven new golf memberships were a direct result of the golf clinic that year. Over time, the lesson has been refined and lasts anywhere from one to two hours. He enjoys working with residents to analyze their capabilities and tries to make it as fun as possible. Where they start on the course depends on their skill level.
As I shadowed one of the clinics, it was a pleasure to witness the mini celebrations as someone improved; The residents cheered on each other’s successes and bantered back and forth, laughing and making jokes. Newer resident Pam Parrish approached me on the sideline and spoke of how much she loves it here at Four Lakes, “It was the best decision we ever made,” she said. Not only is it an excellent opportunity to learn something new, but it also allows you to meet new people.
In the words of Bobby Jones, “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots—but you have to play the ball where it lies.”
